Jackson estate signs largest licensing deal in music history

It appears that Michael Jackson’s estate secured a $250 million licensing deal with Sony allowing Sony broad licensing rights to previously released and yet to be released content.  By way of reference Elvis’ estate still sees music revenues in the $50 to $60 million range each year.  Appears Sony has struck a very smart deal for themselves and us fans of Michael’s body of work.

“Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony Music’s Columbia Epic Label Group, said: “We’re dedicated to protecting this icon’s legacy and we’re thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world for the foreseeable future.”

Stringer told the New York Times: “It’s not just a record deal. I don’t know how an audio soundtrack will be used in 2018 but you’ve got to bet on Michael Jackson in any new platform.”
