The Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has approved grants totaling more than $400,000 to support the commercialization of new technologies developed at state universities or by their licensees.
The grants were made under the GOED-managed Technology Commercialization and Innovation Program. They aim to reinforce Gov. Gary Herbert’s target of creating 100,000 jobs in Utah by 2014, according to GOED.
Grants of up to $40,000 will support 14 technology development projects at the University of Utah, Utah State University and Utah Valley University.
The grants are contingent on the universities or their licensees receiving matching outside funds. The state of Utah invests close to $1.6 million a year in support of university technology commercialization.
